The Korea Heritage Service (Administrator Huh Min, hereinafter KHS) will hold the kick-off ceremony for the 2026 Global National Heritage Ambassadors on April 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the National Palace Museum of Korea in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Now in its fifth year, the Global National Heritage Ambassadors program is a flagship promotional initiative jointly operated by the KHS and Voluntary Agency Network Korea (Head Park Kitae, hiereinafter VANK), in which foreign youth residing in Korea directly experience Korean heritage and promote it to the world.

A total of 40 outstanding international students from around the world, selected under the Global Korea Scholarship* program, have been appointed as ambassadors for this fifth cohort. Over a period of approximately three months, they will create and disseminate multilingual content using social media platforms and generative AI to promote the value and appeal of Korea’s national heritage worldwide.
*Global Korea Scholarship (GKS): A scholarship program administered by the National Institute of International Education under the Ministry of Education, aimed at fostering global talent and building pro-Korea networks.

The Kick-off Ceremony will begin with the official appointment of the ambassadors, followed by an educational session on the meaning of national heritage and strategies for global outreach. In addition, a hands-on program will be offered, creating najeon chilgi (mother-of-pearl lacquerware) items.

Beginning with the ceremony, the ambassadors will carry out a wide range of activities: exporing national heritage sites and producing related content; introducing Korean heritage in their native languages; correcting misinformation about Korean heritage circulating online; and proposing promotional content utilizing AI.

The KHS, through Active Administration, will continue to implement policies to ensure that both domestic and international audiences can easily access and enjoy national heritage, and aims to further disseminate the value of Korea’s national heritage worldwide and contribute to the promotion of cultural heritage.
